East Providence, RI: United Methodist Elder Care invites the public to attend a viewing of the 1944 movie, “The Fighting Seabees” starring John Wayne, followed by a meet and greet with Winslow Gardens’ resident Seabee, Joe Andrews, on Monday, November 23 at 2 pm. Free popcorn and refreshments will be served.
Joe Andrews, age 89, was stationed in Okinawa in 1942 as his unit built roads, bridges and living quarters for U.S. troops in World War II. The Construction Battalions (CBs=Seabees) had to both build and be ready to fight because they were often under attack by the Japanese. Joe will be answering questions about his experiences as a Seabee.
